The following information has been graciously provided by Denise Gregory with the State of Oregon. Based on my own personal research of the area, I concur with the findings.

In 1906 a Kansas City real estate broker visiting the west coast came upon the spectacular site and vowed to create “the Atlantic City of the West.” He almost succeeded. Plans were quickly drawn up and by 1912 the town was well on its way to becoming a reality. Bayocean was advertised as the grandest resort on the Pacific Coast and within just six short years had grown to include a post office, general store, machine shop, narrow-gauge railroad, bowling alley, trap shoot, bakery, movie theater, gas station, several restaurants, and two hotels. It also boasted the largest indoor heated swimming pool on the west coast complete with a wave machine and an elaborate dance pavilion that hosted live bands. By 1914 as many as 600 building lots had been sold and Bayocean was fast becoming a popular resort community complete with running water, electricity, telephone service, and paved roads. MORE...
