Very little is known about the former town of Aquadea, mostly
because as far as I can tell it was never recorded in any county
Register of Deeds under that name. Even so, there are certain
individuals in the area whose families have lived there for over
100 years or longer (the ancestors of the Cromwells moved to the
area in 1884 for example) and they remember clearly old stories of
the "Aquadea Family", or in some cases the "Aquadea
Collective", that set out to establish a Utopian community in
what is now the Tillamook National Forest somewhere around the
1890 time period.
The Aquadeans (for
lack of a better term) were led by the husband and wife team of
Uriah and Henrietta Corts. I am currently investigating what
became of the Corts, but it does appear that according to
documents on file with the Tillamook County Hall of Records, a
perpetual land trust was funded by a certain H. Corts in 1889 and
is still active. I believe this
picture to be just near the border of what is now known as the
"Corts Foundation Trust".
